Loy Krathong Festival

Loy Krathong Festival is a traditional Thai ceremony to float (Loy) a small raft (Krathong) with candle and incense on a river, lake, or canal. The act of floating away Krathong is a symbolic act of paying respect, apologizing and thanking the Goddess of water for the bad things they have done to the river during the past year. This is why the Loy Krathong festival is held at the end of the year. It is also believed that Loy Krathong is a symbol of letting go of all one's grudges, anger and defilements, to start life afresh on a better foot.

Loy Krathong Festival marks the night of the 12th full moon, which this year falls on November 21st. It always takes place at the beginning of the cooler season, which makes it one of the most memorable ways to start a holiday in Thailand. Loy Krathong is a fantastic time to be on Samui.
The View Restaurant & Wine Lounge at KC Resort & Over Water Villas offers special promotions - a special dinner buffet and an activity involving you in Loy Krathong celebrations, giving you a unique and unforgettable experience of this special Thai occasion.

The Secret Chef Society Launch

Koh Samui, Thailand - Monday September 6, 2010 – The arguably top five restaurants on Koh Samui came together Friday, August 27, 2010 at Nikki Beach Bungalow Resort in order to officially launch their new dining initiative, The Secret Chef Society. A groundbreaking concept, The Secret Chef Society is an opportunity for food lovers, both local and visiting, to easily and expansively enjoy the quality and innovative cuisine to be found across the island. A convenient program designed to streamline one’s culinary experience on Koh Samui, the concept was a massive success with great response by all in attendance due to the no fuss and no nuisance nature of the program. The way it works:

Upon conclusion of a meal at one of the cooperating restaurants where guests accumulate a total upwards of a fixed amount (extremely reasonable), each diner will be presented with a membership card. This, quite literally, concludes your application process. On the back of said membership card will be the list of distinguished restaurants for which this newest member now has VIP access to.This entails preferred seating, access to an exclusive menu only available to those belonging to the Society, and a complimentary glass of sparkling wine.

All five head Chefs from each participating restaurant were present at the event and in their element, personally presenting a tasting preview of what members have in store for them. Guests were all a buzz as they migrated from table to table (each representing one of the restaurants) sampling the vast array of superior and inspired food. Most certainly the new forefront of the ever-expanding future of Koh Samui, The Secret Chef Society captured the imaginations of everyone from your “average Joe” to your most discriminating foodie.

About the collaborating Chefs:

Chef Brian Molloy’s (Nikki Beach Restaurant and Bar – Nikki Beach Bungalow Resort) illustrious career, spanning nearly two decades, had its beginnings in Ireland which also serves as his homeland. Having cooked at the four corners of the world and everywhere in between, Chef Malloy was a pioneer in Global Cuisine and used its elements to create the food that Nikki Beach frequenters have come to know and love.

Chef Azizkandar Awang (Rocky’s – Rocky’s Boutique Resort), originally from Kuala Lumpur, was classically trained in French cuisine and has earned several national awards including top honors at The Young Chef Challenge in Malaysia (2004). As the new Executive Chef at Rocky’s, he has been delighting guests with his French and Mediterranean approach to fine dining.

Chef Sebastien Meunier (Red Snapper - Chaweng Resorts), a native of France from Cagnes Sur Mer, worked at an array of Michelin restaurants before blessing Thailand with his talents. Providing a modern take on Mediterranean cuisine, one can always expect cutting-edge technique, the freshest of produce, and a “big twist of passion.”

Chef Ryan Dadufalza (The View Restaurant and Lounge - KC Resort and Over Water Villas) was born and raised in Guam and received his formal training at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in upstate New York. Truly characterizing the concept of “Home-Crafted Cuisine,” diners revel in his creative use of locally sourced ingredients produced exclusively in-house. The Pictures above reveal Chef Ryan's famous 44$ Pie and Larb Gai Roll and the Secret Chef Group Photo, with all the talented chefs and managers.

Chef Adrian Torres (The Cliff Bar and Grill) began his career at Le Cordon Bleu Peru, located in his hometown of Lima. Since then, his repertoire has grown to include influences from his time working in Spain, Cuba, and New Zealand. Now bringing his expertise to Koh Samui, patrons can expect homemade, yet refined flavors built from the best domestic ingredients found on the island. All with his personal touch shining brilliantly through.

Dining on Koh Samui

Everyone loves food and most of us wish to have at least one memorable dinner during on holiday, or two, or three…

If you are on Koh Samui on Honeymoon and like fancy dining underneath the stars on a moonlit beach or just a casual but excellent Thai Dinner, Samui offers it all.

Cow meets Caviar, will be the new highlight on Samui’s Dining Heaven, located on the serene part of Chaweng Beach; this fine beach dining offers the fine skills of KC’s culinary instigator, Mr. Ryan Dadufalza. Ryan has cooked prior at Dining on the Rocks at the Six Senses Hideaway on Koh Samui. Looking at his creations it’s tough
not to use the word “performed”, rather than “cooked”. You may follow his blog at http://ryandkcreturns.blogspot.com/.

Samui offers many roadside stalls, marketplaces and vendors who even come to your door if the need should arise. Don’t be shy and give it try even though they would pass
hygiene control in your own country (at least by the first looks of it) – the food is delicious and great for every wallet.
Dining & refreshments is what you are offered when visiting “The View Restaurant & Wine Lounge” – a stunning, generous open spaced Restaurant located on the hill in Chaweng
overlooking the Gulf of Siam . Currently Ryan is introducing his skills at this breath-taking location and which is by the way enjoying great reviews on Tripadvisor. Chill at the Wine Lounge before dinner and choose from a wide range of Food magazines; Samui Wining & Dining newspaper, Thailand Tatler, Travel & Leisure, Conde Naste, Feinschmecker, and many more.

The View & Wine Lounge will soon be joining The Secret Chef Society on Koh Samui. Samui as a dining destination is growing with monthly events like Six Chefs, Six Courses at Six Senses on Samui and now the Secret Chef Society with their own podcasts and dining events.

Visit KC Resort & Over Water Villas at www.kchotelsresorts.com.
KC Hotels & Resorts has launched its new dining experience pre-opening campaign. It incorporates the name of the Restaurant, Cow meets Caviar, with some pretty funny sketches featuring “Crazy Cow” – always up to something.
