LONG THONG
It looks similar to Kuay Jub but has more ingredients and types of noodle. Long Thong is a local Samui food that is not easy to find in shops nowadays. However, you can still find it in shops on the way to Kiriwong Temple and Bang Por.

CHAIYA’S PRESERVED SALTY EGGS
Ducks in Chaiya eat mollusk, crab and fish on the farm. Which make their egg yolks particularly red? Eggs are covered with soil mixed with salty water and husk, resulting in the famous preserved eggs of Chaiya.

OYSTERS
Suratthani oysters are well-known for their size, cleanliness, taste and smell. Oysters are raised most in Kanchanadit.

SEAWEED SALAD
Fresh seaweed is mixed with other ingredients to yield this specialty of Koh Samui

MOO KOW
Old Chinese on Samui knows very well how to roast preserved pork with shrimp paste because the Moo Kow was once their preserved foodstuff whilst travelling on junk boats. You can try Moo Kow at Jit Podchana Nathon or Kaw Hom at Big Buddha Beach. But please note that the cuisine sometimes be changed from the original.

THAI NOODLE (KANOM JEEN)
Samui Thai Noodle has its own characteristic flavor. For those who are not used to spicy food, just try adding Nam Ya Nam Prik and the sweetness of this sauce will cool the heat of the spices. Recommended shop is Pa Mai Tree, Meanam soi 5

KALAMARE
A desert which has coconut milk as its main ingredient, it is sweet and nutty, sticky and gummy. Eaten with white sesame.Which adds fragrance. You can easily find the Samui Kalamare around Grand Father & Mother Rocks.

LANGSAT
Langsat on Koh Samui is well known for its sweet taste, good smell, small seed, big size, thin peel and scant sap. It is available in July.

The DJs held the party after new year last Saturday. The party was a success and people loved the music. They will hold another party again on Samui this coming Saturday January 14,2012 at Chaweng Lake View.

The Partysquad is a Dutch DJ-team. The two members are DJ Jerry (Jerry Leembruggen) and MC Ruben (Ruben Fernhout). The Partysquad started in 1998 with their mixtapes, and now they’re well-known for their singles and album released, every now and then.

Festivals on Samui

Parade of Buddha statue

During this most important festival in the South, Villagers join hands to decorate the palanquin on which a Buddha state is temporarily enshrined and paraded around the village. The parade can be either on land or by boat depending on the village’s location. At Ban Don Suratthani City on the 15th day of the waxing moon in the 11Th month. The statue is parade either along the main road on the Tapi River. In the afternoon many villages and nearby provinces join the long boat racing. The statue parade at Koh Phangan is held on the 8th-10Th day of the waning moon in the 11th month. Koh Samui the statue parade at Nathon Town. People using traditional rhythms and joyfully throw seaweed to others.

Sat Duen Sip
The 10th month festival aims to provide offering and express gratitude to the late ancestors. On the day to welcome the ancestors back to his world people offer food, desserts, flowers and candles to monks in the temple. On the day to bid farewell to the ancestors people offer local dessert to monks leave it on designated places such as near temple gates, walls, trees or leave it on an elevated specially built structure called “ La Pret”. Once the monks have completed their rituals the villagers joyfully scramble for the dessert.

Bull fighting
This ancient popular sport on Koh Samui was once held on large undecorated terrain in coconut fields or farms. Now permanent stadiums in various districts take turns hosting the monthly bull fighting.

Tannins are a family of natural organic compounds that are found in grape skins, seeds, and stems. Additionally, during the aging process oak barrels infuse tannin into the juice.

Tapas are a wide variety of appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine. They may be cold such as mixed olives and cheese or warm such as chopitos, which are battered, fried baby squid.

The charity is held every two years to raise funds for local charities in Thailand. This year it took place at Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok on Saturday 8 October 2011.

The charities they had choosen this year are The Phrapradaeng Home for the Disabled people in Samutprakan and The Thai Society for the Conservation of Wild Animals.

Bangkok Airways holds 2^nd Samui Island Marathon Princess Cup 2011

In collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Samui Municipal and the Tourism Association of Koh Samui (TAKS), Bangkok Airways launches the Samui Island Marathon 2011 to compete for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Cup. The prize is over 3 million baht which is the highest record in Thai marathon’s history.

During the rainy season from June to October there are fewer tourists than usual on Koh Samui. At this time of the year several events are organized, especially athletic events like the Samui Island Marathon 2011, in order to attract more tourists.

The event will be held on 18 September 2011 on Koh Samui. The start and finish point will be set at Nathon Pier. Everyone is welcome to participate. The competition is divided into different categories; Full Marathon (42,195km), Half Marathon (21,1km), Quarter Marathon (10,55km), Samui Student Marathon (5km) and Fun Run (2km).

Koh Samui welcomed the Final Contestants of Miss Lebanon Immigrant 2011

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Dubai and Middle East Offices organized a four day trip together with the Samui Tourism Association of Koh Samui, Etihad Airways, Bangkok Airways, the Melati Beach Resort and Chaweng Regent Beach Resort and invited the 25 finalists of the Miss Lebanon Immigrant 2011 to the paradise island Koh Samui.

The contestants stayed at the Melati Beach Resort and the Chaweng Regent Beach Resort and were impressed by the natural beauty of Koh Samui.

Besides the typical Sightseeing on Samui they also joined some volunteer activities such as Coconut Tree planting as well as planting orchids in the Angthong National Marine Park. The ladies took part in Thai Cooking classes and handicraft activities.
Additionally, each contestant experienced a luxurious spa treatment at Koh Samui’s most exclusive spas, including the Melati Spa, Banyan Tree Spa, Tamarind Spa and Silawadee Spa.

Mr. Michael Lam, a Young God of Eating of Hong Kong, is well known for his writings about food and also locally known as a Young God of Eating. His critics regularly appear on television and on radio. Mr. Lam published several books and all of them had been sold out in a very short period of time.

During his stay at the KC Resort & Over Water Villas Mr. Lam enjoyed a delicious dinner at The View Restaurant & Wine Lounge and he also had the chance to experience The Secret Chef Society. Mr. Michael Lam took part in a Thai Cooking Class at the KC and he reports it was a lot of fun preparing traditional Thai Food. Punyarisa Chumrum better known as Waii-Kamikaze, a granddaughter of national artist of Thailand Charin Nantanakorn, is a baby hip-hop recording artist. She released her debut album, LIPZ Project with another 6 members in her band. She then released her solo album in 2009. Waii is one of the famous icons for Thai teenagers.

The International Samui Yacht Regatta was first established in 2001 with only 11 boats. Today it is one of Asia’s biggest Regatta’s and the final of the Asian Yachting Grand Prix.

Participants of the Regatta and all sailing friends were stunned by the great entertainment of the Official Regatta Public Party on June 4th taking place at the KC Resort & Over Water Villas on its Resident Roof Top Lounge.

Loy Krathong Festival is a traditional Thai ceremony to float (Loy) a small raft (Krathong) with candle and incense on a river, lake, or canal. It started out as trial as to what-to-do for the launch of the Secret Chef Society on Koh Samui, which was held on the 27th of September 2010 at Nikki Beach; just days before the six chefs - six course event at Six Senses, at their Dining on the Rocks Restaurant.

The $44 Pie was cut up in little slices as a "dessert" towards the end of the event, along with the favorite alternative, the hot cinnamon bun. However the $44 Pie was the winner and the talk of the event. Already now the pie is being sold as a take-away.

Ryan Dadufalza created this tantalizing caramel wonder and credits the sea salt in the recipe as being the key component.

“You need a good amount of salt in there to counter the copious amounts of sugar in the recipe,” says Ryan. He goes on by admitting that “it’s the main reason why the dessert is so well-received; it is a multifaceted taste experience.”

The $44 pie will live on in the menu of KC Resort & Over Water Villas' menu.

Koh Samui, Thailand - Monday September 6, 2010 – The arguably top five restaurants on Koh Samui came together Friday, August 27, 2010 at Nikki Beach Bungalow Resort in order to officially launch their new dining initiative, The Secret Chef Society. A groundbreaking concept, The Secret Chef Society is an opportunity for food lovers, both local and visiting, to easily and expansively enjoy the quality and innovative cuisine to be found across the island. Chef Brian Molloy’s (Nikki Beach Restaurant and Bar – Nikki Beach Bungalow Resort) illustrious career, spanning nearly two decades, had its beginnings in Ireland which also serves as his homeland. Having cooked at the four corners of the world and everywhere in between, Chef Malloy was a pioneer in Global Cuisine and used its elements to create the food that Nikki Beach frequenters have come to know and love.

Chef Azizkandar Awang (Rocky’s – Rocky’s Boutique Resort), originally from Kuala Lumpur, was classically trained in French cuisine and has earned several national awards including top honors at The Young Chef Challenge in Malaysia (2004). Chef Ryan Dadufalza (The View Restaurant & Wine Lounge-KC Resort and Over Water Villas) was born and raised on Guam and received his formal training at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, New York. Truly characterizing the concept of "Home-Crafted Cuisine," diners revel in his creative use of locally sourced ingredients produced in-house.

Chef Adrian Torres (The Cliff Bar and Grill) began his career at Le Cordon Blue Peru, located in his home town of Lima. Since then, his repertoire has grown to include influences from his time working Spain, Cuba, and New Zealand. Now bringing his expertise to Koh Samui, patrons can expect homemade, yet refined flavors built from the best domestic ingredients found on the island. All with his personal touch shining brilliantly through.

Chef Ryan's Dinner Event this past Friday was definitely a memorable dining experience.

Five courses, along with beautifully paired wines were both astounding and pleasing to all 5 senses. Highlighting the night, a bouquet of orchids were placed on the dinner table, simultaneously with our dessert and as the servers poured some form of liquid into the centerpiece of orchids, an enchanting misty cloud floated through out the dinner table with the most delightful scent of almonds. A round of applause filled the room...

We were all on cloud nine as we savored our unparalleled desert. What a sweet ending to a perfect evening of wining and dining!
